It all started in 1981. The Eagleby Self-help Group was founded whose vision was to serve the best for the Eagleby residents. Concerned about the lack of facilities and need for a community meeting place to help foster community spirit, the Group lobbied the then Albert Shire Council to provide a land in Cowper Avenue which gave birth to the Eagleby Community Centre.
They took their services very seriously and renamed the group as Eagleby Community Association Inc which was incorporated as a charitable institution on 13 November 1983. In 2012, the association was registered with ACNC as a public benevolent institution with tax-deductible recipient and income-tax exempt benefits.
We provide direct relief to members of the community who are experiencing life difficulties and as a means to achieve this, we deliver community services which are flexible and culturally inclusive to meet the needs of vulnerable individuals and families and encourage cooperation and participation.
From its foundation in 1981, the Eagleby Community Association Inc has been governed democratically from within its membership. We have a Management Committee who is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting.
The current elected Management Committee for 2017-2018 are:
President Arthur Joyce
Secretary Cora Balaba
Treasurer Cora Balaba
Committee Members: Anne Hodge, Margaret Harvey and Les Turner
The Management Committee manages the community halls and is supported by volunteers who oversee the office administration, programs and activities, events and various fundraising initiatives.
The Eagleby Community Association Inc operates the Eagleby Community Centre which is the only community centre in Eagleby. We are proudly supported by the Department of Social Services for our emergency relief program and the Logan City Council for our facilities, activities and programs.
Our service cares for people in all stages of life such as youth support service, adult and senior support service, all-ages support services, emergency relief services, volunteers' program, counselling, community outreach, information and referrals.
We partnered with other non-profit organisations and private groups in providing various activities for the Eagleby community such as dance classes, fitness groups, church groups, playgroups, craft groups, mini sports and ladies friendship groups. We provide the community halls for these groups free or low fees for maintenance.
Operating for thirty-five years in the Southern part of Brisbane Queensland, Eagleby Community Association Inc staff and volunteers are committed to delivering quality community services of social value and practical benefit.
